The denomination 'Fünf und siebzig Heller' is inscribed in decorative script across the upper portion, above a central octagonal medallion bearing the numeral '75' and the circular legend 'NOTGELD DER GEMEINDE SCHÖNAU.' Flanking text panels state the redemption conditions and the resolution date of 4 May 1920, with the issuing authority identified below as 'Der Bürgermeister,' accompanied by a facsimile signature. |

Schönau im Mühlkreis is a small market town in Upper Austria, and this 75 Heller note is one of the thousands of Notgeld issues that flooded Austria between 1919 and 1921 when coin metal was hoarded and small change became functionally unavailable. Municipalities, businesses, and cooperatives issued their own paper fractional currency by necessity — the central government lacked both the material and the administrative capacity to fill the gap quickly enough.
The JPR reference places this within the Jaksch catalog of Austrian Notgeld, the standard reference for these local issues. The "c" suffix indicates a distinct type within the Schönau 75 Heller series, suggesting at least two or three variant printings existed for this denomination alone.
