Ried im Traunkreis is a small Upper Austrian municipality, and this 75 Heller Notgeld was issued during the wave of emergency coinage that swept Austria between 1919 and 1921, when federal monetary policy utterly failed to supply small denomination currency to local communities. The printer, M. Dißleitner of Vorsfelde, is a notably distant choice — Vorsfelde is in Lower Saxony, Germany — suggesting local Austrian printers were either overcommitted or unavailable at the time of the order.
The single Maringer signature points to municipal authorization rather than a banking institution, which was typical for Gemeinde-issued Notgeld at this level.
