Obverse description Central vignette of a standing female allegorical figure surrounded by bales and barrels, with a harbour scene in the background, set within an oval frame bearing the arched legend THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA. The denomination numeral 75 appears in guilloche medallions at lower left and upper right, with the upper right enclosed within a dotted circular border inscribed BY AUTHORITY OF LAW. A second circular border at lower right reads RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF ALL PUBLIC DUES. The left margin carries a vertical SEVENTY FIVE CENTS underprint, and the date RALEIGH, JAN. 1, 1863 is inscribed across the upper portion with a promise-to-pay clause and redemption date of JAN. 1, 1866 below the central vignette.
