| Beschrijving keerzijde | Highly stylized close-up depiction of a running athlete's legs and torso in mid-stride, rendered in an abstract graphic manner consistent with the obverse design. Horizontal lines across the field reinforce the sense of motion. The Portuguese coat of arms appears centrally in the lower portion of the field, with the denomination 7,50 EURO inscribed below. The designer's credit ANDRÉ CARRILHO • INCM is inscribed in small lettering along the upper left rim. |

Carlos Lopes won the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic marathon at age 37, becoming the oldest Olympic marathon champion in history at the time — a record that still stands. Portugal issued this piece under its unconventional 7½ euro denomination, a face value series INCM introduced partly as a collector vehicle and partly to sidestep the design constraints applied to standard euro coinage under EU agreements.
