| Obverse description | The obverse features three dynamic relief depictions of a racing cyclist in motion, rendered in a stylised artistic manner that captures the energy and athleticism of competitive road cycling. In the upper left field, the Portuguese coat of arms is displayed within an armillary sphere, a traditional national symbol. The face value '7,50€' is inscribed prominently in the centre-left field. The legend 'PORTUGAL 2019' curves along the left rim, while the engraver's signature 'ESC. VÍTOR SANTOS' appears discreetly in the lower right field. |

Joaquim Agostinho remains the greatest Portuguese cyclist never to have won the Tour de France — he finished third overall in both 1978 and 1979, each time edged out in the final standings by the narrowest of margins. He died in 1984 from injuries sustained after colliding with a dog during the Volta a Portugal, a race he had dominated for much of his career.
The 7½ Euro denomination was introduced by the Casa da Moeda specifically for collector-oriented sports and cultural series, a face value low enough to seem nominal but high enough to exceed the coin's silver melt at issue price.
