70 Pounds Senusiyya

The Senusiyya order was the religious and political foundation upon which Libyan independence was built in 1951, with Idris I — the order's leader — becoming the country's first and only king before Gaddafi's 1969 coup severed that lineage entirely. A commemorative denomination denominated in pounds is itself an ideological statement: Gaddafi abolished the Libyan pound in 1971, replacing it with the dinar, so invoking "pounds" in 2025 is a deliberate act of historical reclamation by the post-Gaddafi authorities.
