Austrian municipal notgeld issued under the wave of local emergency currency that flooded the country between 1919 and 1921, when the postwar collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left small denominations effectively unavailable. Fuschl am See is a lakeside village in the Salzkammergut; its municipal council, like hundreds of others across Austria, authorized small-denomination paper to keep local commerce functional. The 70 Heller value is slightly unusual — most series ran to round figures or standard 10, 20, 50 Heller increments.
