| Obverse description | Central field displays four Chữ Hán (Han Chinese) characters arranged in cruciform reading 明命通寶 (Minh Mạng Thông Bảo), meaning 'Circulating Treasure of Minh Mạng', with a radiant sunburst motif at the center where the characters intersect. The characters are rendered in bold relief with strong strokes characteristic of Nguyễn court calligraphy. The entire design is enclosed within a raised beaded border running along the coin's circumference. |
