These 7 Kreuzer pieces were struck in Prague during the Seven Years' War, a conflict that placed extraordinary fiscal strain on the Habsburg monarchy and drove a proliferation of small silver denominations to meet urgent military expenditure. Franz I — Holy Roman Emperor and consort to Maria Theresa — lent his name to the coinage, though real monetary policy was driven by Vienna's war finance needs rather than any initiative of his own.
The four-year window of production ended with Franz I's death in August 1765.
