Obverse description A fully armored knight ('rijder') mounted on a charging horse to the right, brandishing an unsheathed sword aloft with his right hand; beneath the horse, the crowned shield of arms of the Province of Holland. The design is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail characteristic of Dutch Provincial gold coinage. The legend encircles the device within a beaded border, with a rosette mintmark indicating the Dordrecht Mint.
