| Reverse description | The elaborate arms of the City of Riga occupy the central field, depicting the fortified city gate flanked by two rampant lions acting as supporters, the whole surmounted by a cross-tipped finial above the central tower. The design is rendered in fine detail characteristic of early 17th-century Germanic die engraving, with the date MDCXXII appearing in the upper portion of the legend. The engraver's initials M-W for Martin Wulff appear in the lower field flanking the central device. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads continuously around the periphery of the coin. |
