Additional information

Turkey's inflation crisis of the 1990s was severe enough that a face value of 7,500,000 lira represented a denomination that would have been unimaginable a generation earlier — the country had entered the decade with the lira trading at roughly 2,500 to the dollar and closed it closer to 600,000. This coin was struck in the final months before Turkey's catastrophic 2001 financial collapse, which ultimately forced the introduction of the New Turkish Lira in 2005, lopping six zeros off the currency entirely.
