The 6400 réis was Brazil's highest-denomination gold coin, equivalent to a full gold peça or dobra, and its production under Pedro II in the early 1830s came during a constitutionally turbulent moment — the emperor was still a minor, with a regency governing in his name following Pedro I's abdication in April 1831. The regency period was marked by provincial revolts and fiscal instability, which makes mint output from these years administratively interesting.
KM#387 was struck at Rio de Janeiro. The two-year run ended in 1833, after which the denomination was not immediately continued under the same type.
