| Obverse description | Draped bust of King João V facing right, wearing a flowing curled wig rendered in high relief with elaborate Baroque detail. The royal effigy is uncrowned and truncated at the shoulder. The circular legend surrounds the bust, with the Bahia mint mark 'B' and the issue year positioned in the lower field beneath the truncation. The overall style reflects the refined engraving tradition of the early 18th-century Portuguese colonial mints. |

| Reverse description | The Portuguese royal coat of arms rendered in the 4th type of shield design, centrally placed and elaborately framed by symmetrical Baroque cartouche scrollwork. The escutcheon displays the traditional quartered arms of Portugal — comprising the quinas (five shields in cross formation each bearing five bezants) and the castle bordure — surmounted by an ornate royal crown with cross finial. Decorative acanthus-scroll mantling flanks the shield on both sides, filling the field with characteristic Baroque exuberance. No legend appears on the reverse; the design occupies the full flan within the milled border. |
