Obverse description Right-facing laureate and wigged bust of King João V of Portugal, rendered in high relief in the Baroque court style, with elaborate flowing curls cascading over the shoulders. The royal crown appears atop the wig. The peripheral Latin legend reads IOANNES.V.D.G.PORT.ET.ALG.REX, interrupted by the bust. The Bahia mint mark 'B' appears in the lower central field, with the date below, separated by stops.
