| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the crowned Portuguese royal shield, displaying the quintas and castles of the arms of Portugal beneath a large ornate crown with fleurs-de-lis finials. The date 1695 is divided to either side of the crown, with the denomination 640 appearing to the lower left of the shield. Three cinquefoil rosettes are positioned to the right of the shield in the field. The circular Latin legend encircles the entire design, reading from upper right. |
