Obverse description The obverse retains the design of the host Brazilian 640 Réis coin of Pedro I, dated 1825. At center, the large numeral '640' is displayed within a decorative wreath of laurel and floral sprigs, with the date 1825 and mint mark in the exergue. The circular legend reads PETRUS.I.D.G.CONST.IMP.ET.PERP.BRAS.DEF around the periphery in Latin script. Applied over the central numeral is the Portuguese countermark — a crowned 'GP' monogram — validating the coin for circulation in the Azores at the revalued denomination of 600 Réis. The overall surface shows the characteristic patina and wear consistent with a circulated countermarked issue.
