| Obverse description | The obverse displays the crowned quartered arms of Castile and León, characteristic of Spanish colonial cob (macuquina) coinage, struck on an irregularly shaped planchet. The shield is divided into quadrants bearing alternating castles and lions, with a pomegranate at the base. A partial circular legend in Latin surrounds the central device, and the mint mark and assayer initial are visible to the left of the shield. The overall style is consistent with hammered cob coinage produced at a Spanish colonial mint. |
