The Royal Cradle Ceremony, or Saart Phra Mangkhala Khrong Phrakaen, is one of the oldest Brahminic rites incorporated into Thai royal tradition, performed shortly after the birth of a royal child to formally name and bless the infant. This issue commemorates the ceremony for Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti, born in 2005 as the son of Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn. The Brahmin priests who conduct the rite trace their role in the Thai court directly to Khmer religious influence absorbed during the Ayutthaya period.
