The Department of Revenue was established in Thailand in 1915 under Rama VI, making 1995 its eightieth anniversary. The department administers tax collection across the kingdom, and commemorative issues tied to government ministries were a consistent feature of Thai mint output through the 1980s and 1990s — a period when the Royal Thai Mint produced an unusually high volume of silver commemoratives, many with mintages so small they were effectively presentation pieces from the outset.
