The Central Bureau of Investigation was established in 1963, carved out of the Special Police Establishment that had been created in 1941 to investigate wartime procurement fraud. Its diamond jubilee — sixty years of operation — prompted this commemorative issue in 2023. India's commemorative rupee program has long used such anniversaries to mark institutional milestones, though the .500 fineness places this squarely in the lower tier of the series, a grade more common in India's commemoratives from the 2010s onward than the .900 silver used in earlier decades.
