Applied prominently in the central field is an oval or incuse countermark bearing the numeral '60', officially applied in 1663 to revalue the host coin to 60 Réis for circulation in Brazil. The underlying design of the host coin, typically featuring a crowned armillary sphere or royal arms in the Portuguese hammered tradition, remains partially visible beneath the countermark. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and surface wear common to hammered silver coinage of the period.
