| 正面描述 | Left-facing truncated bust of a male figure occupying the central field, enclosed within a three-quarter laurel and olive wreath tied at the base with a floral ornament. The circular legend ESTADO L. Y S. DE OAXACA runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 60 PESOS ORO is inscribed in two lines below the bust, flanked by the lower branches of the wreath. The design is rendered in high relief with a plain, polished field typical of provisional gold coinage. |

The State of Oaxaca issued this coin during its period of formal secession from the Mexican federal government under Governor José Inés Dávila, who declared Oaxaca a sovereign entity in 1915 rather than submit to Carranza's Constitutionalist authority. The provisional government needed hard currency that its population would actually accept — paper money from any faction was being refused outright across much of southern Mexico by 1916.
The .859 fineness is notably below standard 22-karat gold, a consequence of working with whatever bullion the isolated state could source locally.
