| Additional information |
The Banco Central de la República Dominicana was established in 1947 under Law No. 1529, replacing a currency system previously dependent on the U.S. dollar following decades of American financial oversight that had its roots in the 1905 customs receivership. The 60th anniversary issue marks that institutional independence rather than any particular monetary event.
Bimetallic commemoratives of this specification — gold-core, silver-ring — were produced in relatively small quantities by Caribbean central banks in the 2000s and rarely entered general circulation.
