正面描述 Draped and armored bust of Count John VIII of Montfort facing right, wearing a long flowing allonge wig characteristic of the late 17th-century baroque style. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail on the cuirass and lace cravat. A Latin legend encircles the bust along the periphery, interrupted by a six-petalled rosette stop. The coin is bordered by an inner beaded circle and an outer milled rim.

附加信息

Montfort-Peggau was one of the smaller subdivisions of the already fragmented Montfort dynasty, a family whose territories in the Vorarlberg and Styrian regions had been progressively partitioned through inheritance disputes across the seventeenth century. By 1678, John VIII ruled a county of diminishing political relevance, and the decision to strike a 60 Kreuzer piece — a denomination that competed directly with the Reichsthaler in everyday commerce — likely reflects an assertion of comital minting rights more than any pressing monetary need.

Issues from Peggau are genuinely scarce in the numismatic record. KM#56 sees very few auction appearances.
