Obverse description The city arms of Colmar — a diagonal key and a six-pointed star — displayed within an elaborate scrolled cartouche occupying the central field. The date appears in Arabic numerals above the shield, within the upper curve of the cartouche. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the surrounding circular legend. The overall style is characteristic of late Renaissance German municipal coinage, with fluid, organic scroll-work framing the heraldic charge.
