Austrian Notgeld from the immediate postwar period, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left municipalities across Tyrol issuing their own emergency scrip to cover a chronic small-denomination coin shortage. Telfs, a market town in the Inn Valley, was among hundreds of communities that contracted local printers rather than waiting on Vienna. Wagner's press in Innsbruck handled a significant share of Tyrolean municipal issues during this period.

The Wendlhof design credit is unusual — most small Notgeld commissions went uncredited. Whether Wendlhof was a staff artist at Wagner or an independent designer working the regional Notgeld trade is not firmly established in the literature.
