Seekirchen am Wallersee was one of hundreds of Austrian market towns that issued Notgeld during the hyperinflationary collapse following the First World War, when small denomination coinage vanished entirely from circulation. The Marktgemeinde authorized these emergency issues out of practical necessity — without them, everyday transactions simply couldn't be made. R.
