Krems an der Donau was one of hundreds of Austrian municipalities that issued Notgeld during the postwar economic collapse, when small coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. The 60 Heller denomination places this squarely in the practical range — too large to ignore, too small for the banks to bother with — making municipal paper the only functional solution for everyday transactions in 1920.
The Jaksch reference JPR0474b suffix indicates a variant within the Krems series, likely a color or text differentiation from the base type. Krems issued multiple series; condition-related foxing from the low-grade wartime paper stock is a known issue across the entire Austrian municipal Notgeld output of this period.
