Grödig is a small market community south of Salzburg, and its wartime Heller notes belong to the Austrian Notgeld phenomenon that flourished from roughly 1914 onward as small coinage vanished from circulation — hoarded by the public and consumed by wartime metal demands. Municipalities, businesses, and even individual estates printed their own emergency fractional currency to keep local commerce moving.

The 60 Heller denomination is one of the less common values in the Grödig series. JPR0290e designates it within the Jaksch cataloguing system for Salzburg provincial Notgeld.
