Altenfelden is a small market commune in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel region, and this 60 Heller note belongs to the vast wave of Austrian municipal notgeld issued between 1919 and 1921 when post-war coinage collapsed entirely and even the smallest transactions required improvised local solutions. Hundreds of communes — many far smaller than Altenfelden — printed their own emergency fractional notes during this period, often on whatever press was locally available.
The Jaksch reference places this within the systematically catalogued Upper Austrian notgeld corpus. Local printing is confirmed; quality and registration consistency vary across the series.
