Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Ferdinand II, King of the Two Sicilies, rendered in high relief with finely engraved curly hair and short sideburns, the truncation of the neck cut cleanly at the coin's lower field. The royal legend arcs around the periphery from lower left to lower right, with the date 1857 placed in the exergue beneath the portrait. The field is smooth and slightly convex, typical of Neapolitan milled coinage of the mid-nineteenth century.
