ASNOM — the Anti-Fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia — held its founding session on August 2, 1944, at the Prohor Pčinjski Monastery, declaring Macedonian a state language and establishing the framework for what would become the Socialist Republic of Macedonia within federal Yugoslavia. The date was deliberately chosen: August 2nd also marks Ilinden, the 1903 St. Elijah's Day Uprising against Ottoman rule, a conscious layering of symbolic weight.
This 2004 gold issue marks sixty years from that session. KM#21 is a low-mintage commemorative with limited secondary market presence outside the region.
