| Obverse description | A genuine 60 Céntimos Spanish Republic postage stamp (Scott type) is encapsulated within a round cardboard disc, serving as the obverse of this emergency issue. The stamp depicts the allegorical effigy of the Second Spanish Republic facing right, rendered in blue ink in a classical engraved style. The legend 60 CTS appears at the upper right of the stamp, with CORREOS reading vertically along the right margin, and REPUBLICA ESPAÑOLA inscribed along the lower portion. The perforated edges of the stamp are visible within the cardboard surround, giving the piece its distinctive encased-stamp appearance. |

Issued during the Spanish Civil War by a municipality or local entity cut off from reliable coin supply, this cardboard emergency piece reflects the Republican zone's chronic shortage of small change after 1936. Metal had been diverted to the war effort, and the Nationalist blockade of supply chains made restocking impossible. Local authorities improvised with printed pasteboard in denominations that could handle everyday transactions.
Miró catalogues dozens of these regional emissions, many surviving only in tiny quantities. Cardboard wears and disintegrates; pieces in presentable condition are genuinely scarce.
