Issued to mark the 40th anniversary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, proclaimed on December 2, 1975 following the Pathet Lao's consolidation of power after decades of civil conflict and American bombing campaigns that left Laos the most heavily bombed country per capita in history. The Bank of the Lao PDR has issued commemorative silver pieces in limited runs since the 1990s, primarily for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation — the kip's exchange rate makes face value essentially ceremonial.
