Reverse description The reverse features a large, bold Cross of the Order of Christ (a plain Latin cross with squared ends) prominently centered in the field, with a quatrefoil rosette motif placed in each of the four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross. The surrounding circular legend reads *IN*HOC*SIGNO*VINCES* — 'In this sign you shall conquer' — separated by small star or cross stops, rendered in raised Latin characters. The overall design is crisp and heraldic in character, consistent with Portuguese coinage of the Joannine period.
