Aanvullende informatie

Tự Đức reigned through one of the most turbulent periods in Vietnamese history, watching French forces seize Cochinchina in 1862 and steadily compress imperial authority northward. These small brass cash coins were issued against that backdrop of territorial dismemberment, continuing a monetary tradition largely unchanged in form since the Lê dynasty while the empire itself was being partitioned by treaty. The "Lục Văn" denomination — six văn — placed this piece in the middle of the cash hierarchy Tự Đức maintained alongside zinc and copper issues of varying weights.

Barker's attribution distinguishes this type by subtle casting characteristics that separate it from the broader Tự Đức Thông Bảo series spanning his 36-year reign.
