| 正面描述 | The obverse is entirely occupied by a nine-line Latin funerary inscription in bold raised lettering across the field, recording the birth, reign, and death of Duke August the Younger of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. The central text reads: NATUS AO 1579 10 APR. / REXIT DUCAT. ET COMITAT. / SUOS ANNOS XXXI. / OBIIT / 17 SEPT. MDCLXVI. / VIXIT / ANNOS LXXXVII MENSES V / DIES VII. A wide circular border legend reads DEI GRATIA AUGUSTUS DUX BRUNOVICENSIUM ET LUNAEBURGENSIUM, separated from the inner inscription by a beaded inner ring. The overall design reflects the epitaph style common to large commemorative multiple thalers of the seventeenth-century German states. |

| 背面描述 | The reverse displays a large, boldly rendered tree occupying the central field, its branches partly bare and partly leafed, symbolising the transience of earthly glory. A human skull lies at the base of the trunk among exposed roots, reinforcing the memento mori theme. The denomination numeral '6' appears to the left of the lower trunk. Scattered letters among the branches form part of the motto QUAE LAETA ERANT DEVIREBANT RIGUI, while the surrounding circular legend reads OMNIA NON NISI PROVIDO ET VEGETO CONSILIO / SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI, separated from the central device by a beaded border. The composition is characteristic of the elaborate allegorical engraving style employed on Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel commemorative multiples of the mid-seventeenth century. |
