| Obverse description | Quartered provincial arms of Utrecht surmounted by the small Utrecht city arms at center, the whole superimposed over a floriated cross that divides a beaded inner circle. The heraldic shield displays the characteristic quarters of the province, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style typical of late sixteenth-century Dutch hammered coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the outer border, separated from the inner design by a beaded ring. |

| Reverse description | An armored knight on horseback galloping to the left, raising a sword aloft in his right hand in a dynamic martial pose — the distinctive 'snaphaen' (snaphaan) type from which this denomination takes its popular name. A beaded inner circle frames the equestrian figure, with the date placed in the exergue below the groundline. The encircling Latin legend occupies the outer border of the field, rendered in the angular, slightly irregular letterforms characteristic of hammered provincial coinage of the Dutch Revolt period. |
