West Friesland struck remarkably few gold patterns, and this piece belongs to a specific moment of monetary friction: the ongoing dispute between provincial and municipal authorities over the valuation of the leeuwenschelling in bank money versus current money. Dirck Bosch, as mint master, periodically produced trial pieces at alternative weight standards — this one deliberately matched to the ducat weight to test feasibility against the coin's silver accounting value.
The Delmonte variety distinction here matters. HPM records only a handful of confirmed specimens.
