Joseph II's fiscal reforms in the Austrian Netherlands triggered near-constant friction with local estates throughout the 1780s. Luxembourg, as a Habsburg possession, was swept into this turbulence — the Brabant Revolution of 1789 effectively ended Austrian administrative control of the region, cutting short the production window for this type. The short striking period across only three years, combined with disrupted mint operations as revolt spread, keeps surviving examples relatively scarce in any grade.
