| Beschrijving voorzijde | Rectangular indented countermark applied by British authorities in the Bay of Honduras, bearing a crowned GR monogram within a recessed rectangular punch. The countermark is struck over the obverse of a Spanish colonial 8 Reales, which displays the right-facing laureate and draped bust of Ferdinand VII of Spain. The legend encircling the bust reads FERDIN · VII · DEI · GRATIA · with the date 1818, denoting Ferdinand VII by the grace of God. The host coin was struck at the Mexico City Mint, identifiable by the Mo mintmark. The rectangular GR countermark served as official validation for circulation in British Honduras at the rate of 6 shillings and 1 penny. |
