| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the Portuguese royal arms, featuring the crowned shield of Portugal at center with the characteristic quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) and bordure of castles, rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hammered style typical of colonial Indian mint production. The crown appears prominently above the shield, with scrolling decorative elements flanking the sides of the arms. The overall design is strongly struck into the copper flan, with the shield occupying the majority of the coin's field. The irregular flan shape and rough workmanship are characteristic of the Dio (Diu) mint during the reign of Maria I. |
