Obverse description A Chilean Wine Palm (Jubaea chilensis) in high relief at center, its base framed by a semicircular cartouche bearing the legend INDEPENDENCIA. Above the palm, a radiant sun with a human face emerges from clouds flanked by mountain peaks. The circular border legend reads EL ESTADO DE CHILE CONSTITUIDO INDEPENDIENTE · AÑO DE 1818, with engraver's initials F.V. at the base of the field.
