Reuss-Lobenstein was one of the smallest and most financially precarious of the Thuringian Reuss principalities, a house so subdivided by inheritance customs that its coinage output was sporadic and often contracted out to distant mints. The 1761 date places this piece squarely in the Seven Years' War, a conflict that drained even larger German states to the point of currency debasement — billon being the predictable result for a territory of Lobenstein's limited means.
Henry II ruled Reuss-Lobenstein from 1739 until his death in 1782, one of the longer reigns among the fractured Reuss lines.
