Obverse description Central field features the crowned interlaced cypher of Landgrave Ernest Louis of Hesse-Darmstadt, composed of the intertwined initials C and L beneath a princely crown. The monogram is rendered in an ornate Baroque style and is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circular Latin legend reads FURSTL HESS DARMST LAND MUNTZ, distributed around the periphery and separated by decorative stops. The coin's milled edge is visible at the rim.
