Ernest August Constantin ruled Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach during the Seven Years' War, which tore directly through Thuringia between 1756 and 1763. The duchy's finances were badly strained by Prussian and French troop movements through the region, and small silver issues like this one were produced partly to meet the acute shortage of circulating coinage that wartime disruption created. The Slg. Merseburg reference places this among a well-documented but thinly struck series from a minor mint operating under considerable fiscal pressure.
