6 Pfennig - Charles I

Charles I ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1735 until his death in 1780, but this billon 6 Pfennig type was struck only through 1759 — the year the Seven Years' War reached its most destructive phase in the German territories. Brunswick itself was occupied and financially strained by the conflict, and small billon coinage of this kind was frequently debased or restruck by occupying forces. Welter 2769 is reasonably well-documented but survives unevenly across the date range, with later strikes generally showing more worn dies.
