Anna Amalia served as regent of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach from 1758 following the death of her husband Ernst August II, holding that role until her son Carl August came of age in 1775. This coin was struck during the Seven Years' War, when Thuringian states faced acute fiscal pressure from troop movements and occupation — Weimar itself was occupied by Prussian forces at various points, and small billon issues like this one were a practical response to silver shortages and the need to keep petty commerce functioning under duress.
