| 裏面の説明 | Large Roman numeral VI occupying the central field within a beaded inner circle, with the four-digit date 1608 inscribed above in the upper portion of the inner circle. A small countermark or mintmaster's device appears at the base of the numeral. The entire central design is surrounded by an elaborate outer border of scrollwork and foliate ornament, consistent with the decorative vocabulary of early seventeenth-century Westphalian copper coinage. |

The Cathedral Chapter of Münster issued copper small change largely out of necessity — the prince-bishopric's monetary authority was perpetually contested between secular and ecclesiastical factions, and small-denomination copper coinage filled gaps that imperial silver could not practically reach. This particular issue spans the Thirty Years' War, during which Westphalia became one of the most brutalized regions in Europe, with Münster itself later giving its name to the 1648 peace treaties that ended the conflict.
Copper pfennig-range issues from wartime Westphalia circulated hard and were rarely preserved with care.
